Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club - history

Moseley Rugby Club was founded in 1873 by members of Havelock Cricket Club, who wanted a winter sport when the cricket season ended.

The club debuted in the signature red and black strip a year later. From 1874, they were based at Highgate Road and Moseley Road near Camp Hill Station. In 1878, they moved to a ground on Oxford Road in Moseley.

The Reddings was leased to them in 1880. This was near Alcester Road, between Reddings Road and Moor Green Lane. After financial difficulties, they were forced to sell their old ground to developers by 1999. Today it is a housing development. With Rugby related road names, Twickenham Drive off Reddings Road, and Harlequin Drive off Moor Green Lane. The former pitch at the centre is now Reddings Play Area.

From 1998 to 2005, Moseley Rugby Club was based at the University of Birmingham in Bournbrook.

They then moved to Billesley Common in the Shire Country Park near Yardley Wood Road in Billesley, where they remain to this day. Plans for stands were difficult, but a stand with capacity of 750 seats was opened in 2015.
