Aston is one of two stations that serves Villa Park for Aston Villa, the other station being Witton.
The station originally opened in 1837 as part of the former Grand Junction Railway. It crosses over a viaduct and a bridge near the Lichfield Road, as well as the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal. Aston is at the junction of the Cross City Line and Chase Line, and is close to Spaghetti Junction and the Aston Expressway. Class 323 Electric Multiple Unit trains are on the Cross City Line, and the Chase Line (since the electrification to Rugeley Trent Valley) now uses Class 350's. Six trains per hour (each direction) on the Cross City Line, while there is only two trains an hour on the Chase Line (between Walsall and Wolverhampton via Birmingham New Street).
