The Wellington Hotel - history
The left part of the building was a house dating to around 1792.
The Wellington Hotel was named in 1818, probably after the Duke of Wellington, who led the forces against Napoleon to victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
The Regency look actually dates to 1890 to 1891 by James & Lister Lea (1890 is the establishment date of the pub).
They also rebuilt a baker's shop to the right (the leaseholder was Richard Avern in 1792, a baker).
The ground floor dates to 1930 by J. P. Osborne & Son.
Only a fireplace from 1930 survives to back then.
There is also a billiards room dating to 1890.
